Reblog: “I Hate Porn”

“I Hate Porn”
a blog post by Eric Simmons for Desiring God

Chances are that you know someone who struggles with the sin of pornography. They may not talk about it, because they probably don’t like to advertise it. It’s not as “socially accepted” as other sins are in our Christian circles. All the same, they struggle with it, and it is devastating. Here is a particularly poetic and intense look at why one man hates porn. The reasons are well-stated and are unflinchingly biblical and Christ-centered–ultimately, we should hate porn because of how they undermine the design of God for sex and marriage and how it cripples His children. But the best part of this post is when the author pivots and says, “But I love Jesus.” If you struggle with viewing pornography, please know this: you can still love Jesus, because Jesus still loves you. There is grace to cover these sins. He has died for your sins, and in Christ, you have died to your sins. You can be free of the feeling of guilt and your addiction to pornography! The victory in Christ is yours, if you will but rise up and take it, as God’s grace enables you.
