“Over Jordan, Over Home”

“Over Jordan, Over Home”
written June 4, 2013

A child went home to be with God today–
What priv’lege! For the boy had long been ill
And fought against his flesh in many ways.
God took him home, according to His will.

Now as the child sees God’s most lovely face,
He knows now all the Scripture has been true!
Each moment spent in running the good race
Has been rewarded fully, through and through.

His prayer is praise, and now his faith is sight;
What blessing to reach Jordan’s other shore–
No more a tear to shed or war to fight,
But to enjoy our God forevermore.

That blessed child has left the earth he trod
To go on home, fore’er to be with God!

Written at the passing of a friend’s friend as a reminder that death is no fear, but a joyous moment when we shall pass into the presence of our God. Heaven awaits the Christian, and it will be more incredible than we could imagine: no more suffering, no more tears, no more sin, but best of all, we will behold the face of our God and enjoy Him fully.

Revelation 21:2-7: 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” 5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
